The Atlanta Braves have traded David Hale and Gus Schlosser to the Colorado Rockies for Minor League catchers Jose Briceno and Chris O'Dowd.

Hale pitched 45 games for Atlanta last season, going 4-5 with a 3.30 ERA, and had been expected to compete for a spot in the starting rotation.

The Philadelphia Phillies remain in talks with the Toronto Blue Jays and Milwaukee Brewers about a potential trade for Jonathan Papelbon.

Two sources said the talks were alive on Tuesday night.

Both the Blue Jays and Brewers are in need of a closer, but Papelbon's salary ($13 million in 2015) has been a sticking point.

The Boston Red Sox have traded Anthony Ranaudo to the Texas Rangers for Robbie Ross.

Ross, 25, started 12 games for the Rangers last season. He struggled as a starter before moving back to the bullpen, where he enjoyed success previously.

Ranaudo, 25, made his Major League debut with the Red Sox last season, going 4-3 with a 4.81 ERA in seven starts.

The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded Travis Snider to the Baltimore Orioles for a Minor League pitcher and a player to be named later.

The deal was announced on Tuesday night.

Pittsburgh received left-hander Stephen Tarpley.

The Toronto Blue Jays have broken off talks with the Baltimore Orioles for executive Dan Duquette after refusing to part with Jeff Hoffman and two other top prospects as compensation.

Toronto has reportedly been interested in hiring Duquette to replace Paul Beeston as team president since December.

The Cleveland Indians are expected to operate with a payroll in the $83-84 million range this season.

They have been quiet thus far, signing Gavin Floyd for $4 million plus incentives and trading for Brandon Moss ($6.5 million via arbitration).

"There is," president Mark Shapiro said of wiggle room. "We do look at opportunities on an individual basis. We try not to be encumbered at all by what payroll is and salaries are. Is there a way for us to creatively handle it? We're not talking about [Max] Scherzer, but [about] how we feel and [what] the level of impact of some player is -- and [we] measure it in wins, whether it is now, July or August.

"Can we stretch and allot for money? The appendix to that is, what kills deals 95 percent of the time is not payroll, but player asks. Salary is not usually where it stops, but player asks."

The Minnesota Twins thought they had two trades in the works that ultimately fell through this offseason, according to a report.

The club they were negotiating with decided on another offer late in both instances.

The trades were not for Jeremy Hellickson or J.A. Happ, according to a source.

The Milwaukee Brewers are in serious talks to acquire Jonathan Papelbon, according to a report.

The Philadelphia Phillies would send money to Milwaukee a part of the deal.

Milwaukee is on Papelbon's no-trade list, but that doesn't rule out a swap if the reliever feels he has a better chance to win.

The Toronto Blue Jays have also had interest in Papelbon recently.

The Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles are nearing a deal that would send executive Dan Duquette to Canada, according to sources.

If a deal is reached, Duquette's compensation with Toronto will be substantial.

Orioles owner Peter Angelos recently told the Baltimore Sun that he expects Duquette to remain in his current role with the club.

The Miami Marlins haven't received any trade inquires regarding Dan Haren.

Haren has stated his preference to pitch on the West Coast, but told the Marlins he will report to Spring Training even if a trade isn't worked out.
